Go outside and play!

recent research, including a University of Munich study of 174,000 students in thirty-one countries, indicates that students who frequently use computers perform worse academically than those who use them rarely or not at all. (Orion Magazine)

Why I, a computer programmer, am not going to let my (now 20-month-old) daughter use a computer until she absolutely must.

Have you ever read Clifford Stoll? He had a lot to say on that topic in "High-Tech Heretic: Why Computers Don't Belong in the Classroom and Other Reflections by a Computer Contrarian." You've gotta start with "The Cuckoo's Egg," though, to get the back story. It's a fascinating read.

No, I haven't. Sounds like my kind of guy! I love this quote of his:

"Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?"
